dxf2curve[65].lsc is a free Modeler LScript for LightWave 6.x    (PC or Mac)

LightWave's native dxf import routine won't bring in polylines (splines), and the EPS Loader only works for 2D curves.  dxf2curve will create curves or two-point polygon chains from polylines in dxf files, such as those created by AutoCAD, Rhino, etc.

The figure on the right shows the Curve option result in the foreground layer and the Polygon option result in the background.

Quickstart

Running    dxf2curve  produces the following interface:

Choose the dxf file to use, then select "Curve" to create a smooth curve in Modeler or "Polygon" to create a chain of two-point polygons.

Notes

  • dxf2curve scans every line of the dxf file for "VERTEX" and uses the locations found.  Smaller dxf files will process faster.  If your CAD program has an option to export "Entities Only", a smaller file will be created.

  • For best results, use "AutoCAD version Release 12" compatibility option when creating the dxf file.

  • There is a limitation in LW of a maximum of 1023 vertices per curve (polygon).  Version 1.1 corrects a bug where trying to convert a dxf file containing more than 1023 vertices would cause an error.  Now multiple curves (polygons) are created.

Download  dxf2curve.zip  (version 1.1, 23 kB, 3/31/03)

The archive contains  LW 7.5b, 7.5, and 6.5b versions of the script.

dxf2curve is free software, but if you would like to help defray the cost of development and help to keep free and inexpensive tools for LightWave coming, consider a small donation.  You decide on the amount, if any.  Thanks!
